| | Friday, August 07 | Loggerhead Triathalon 5th Annual Sports and Fitness Expo Time: 3-9pm Description: Competitors and race enthusiasts can attend the 5th Annual Sports & Fitness Expo the day before the race on Friday, August 7 at the Jupiter Beach Resort. At the Expo, competitors are able to pick up their participant packet which includes their race shirt, race number and important race-day information. The Sports & Fitness Expo will feature a number of companies specializing in sporting goods and automobiles, health foods and other industries important to a healthy lifestyle. Also at the Expo, new competitors to the Loggerhead Triathlon will be given a "First Timer" seminar. | | Saturday, August 08 | 24th Annual Loggerhead Triathlon Time: 7:00am Description: Over 600 athletes from all over south Florida, and from around the world, will plunge into the Atlantic Ocean off Carlin Park for the start of the Annual Loggerhead Triathlon. The Loggerhead Triathlon is one of the longest enduring triathlons in the state of Florida. Jointly hosted by the Triathlon Club of the Palm Beaches and the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Gordon & Doner, the event has become a "must do" on the southeast race circuit and has spawned some of the top triathletes in the United States.
This year's event is set to take place on the morning of Saturday, August 8th, 2009. On this day, athletes will tackle a 3/8 mile swim in the Atlantic Ocean, a 13 mile bike followed by a 5 kilometer run, both on A1A.
As in the past, a portion of the proceeds from the triathlon are donated to help benefit the MarineLife Center of Juno Beach, a non profit education and conservation facility located on the ocean in Palm Beach County.
