Education
Northern Palm Beach County offers an array of educational opportunities, from the nationally recognized, award-winning public school system to distinguished private schools and top-tier colleges and universities. Learners of all ages find our area to be the perfect place to start or continue their education.
As the 12th largest school district in the country and fourth largest in Florida, the Palm Beach County School District (PBCSD) maintains 183 schools throughout the county, with approximately 168,546 students enrolled in Pre-K through 12th grade during the 2008-09 school year.
The Palm Beach County School District is the only urban school system in the State to have earned an "A" rating from the Florida Department of Education for four consecutive years (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) based on student performance on Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), with 109 schools earning A's. The district is recognized nationally in academics and operations, including having won numerous national awards for finance, budget and school construction.
Academically, Palm Beach County schools continue to lead nationally, according to Newsweek magazine's - The Top of the Class - 1,200 Top U.S. Schools (2008) list. Suncoast High School is the top high school in Florida and in the entire eastern United States. Three schools are in the top 100 high schools in America: Suncoast High School, Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts and Atlantic Community High School. Five schools are in the top 5 percent nationwide.
There are 593 National Board Certified teachers and more than 30,000 students attending over 100 career academies and choice programs. In addition to the dedicated teachers and strong administrative and support staff, the PBCSD is grateful to the over 32,500 volunteers and 533 business partners who donate their time and resources for the benefit of our students and community.
For the student in all of us, there are 26 community schools throughout the county as well as the Adult Education Center in West Palm Beach that provide adult education programs and classes to residents each year.
