Employee Free Choice Act

The Northern Palm Beach County Chamber's Board of Directors strongly OPPOSES the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). The bill also known as Card Check, is federal legislation that curtails the rights of the employer and employee and will hamper economic growth and recovery.

A few facts about EFCA:

  •     EFCA makes it easier for unions to organize by eliminating the secret ballot elections, forcing workers to make the decisions in front of union organizers. By doing this it limits and/or eliminates collective bargaining between the employee and employer and changes procedures used for union organizing, allowing for binding arbitration.
  •     EFCA disenfranchises workers who may oppose unionizing by cutting them  out of the negotiations.
  •     EFCA imposes new penalties only on employer misconduct, not on union misconduct
  •    Denies workers and employers the ability to vote on the terms and conditions of their employment including their pay, hours of work and benefits.
  •    Puts the Federal Government and Unions in the drivers seat with labor management and relations.

EFCA forces new burdens upon the employer community and there is concern about the detrimental effects it could have on business productivity as well as employee rights. Help inform your employees of the harmful effects and misleading title.

In order to work to stop this bill from passing, please contact your U.S. Senators and Congressman to encourage them to vote NO on Bill H.R. 800/S. 1041.
