PBIA Expansion Plan

The Palm Beach County Department of Airports (DOA) proposed a plan to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expand the south runway at the Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) to accommodate existing and future aviation demand. In January 2007, the FAA initiated an Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate the environmental impacts of the County's proposed project, which includes local citizens opinions.

The Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce supports this proposed Runway 9R-27L project. Expansion of Runway 9R-27L at Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) will address safety issues as well as accommodate existing and future aviation demand. PBIA is a major economic engine in Palm Beach County and it is imperative that the airport function at maximum performance to support continued growth and development of the community.

More members of the business community in support of the project need to be heard before the public comment period closes on November 24, 2008. It is not too late to
send comments directly to the Federal Aviation Administration.
